2020-04-26 Youngsters 2nd round

Hello,

it was about time that there was an update. This one is on the youngsters from the 2nd breeding round. As written before, from 4 pairs, 3 pairs produced fertile eggs in the second round.
These eggs hatched, youngsters have bands and start to grow feathers, so we can say something about the development of the cvolor of the birds.
From the pair blackpieds there are again 2 healthe squabs. The youngest seems to be blackpied, the oldest shows signs of being barred, with a very dark wingdeck though.

The picture is not very clear, but there will be another update in the near future on these two. It is notable that this pair gives barred youngs, from the male it is clear, but the female is carrying barred as well I guess, otherwise the chequer should always be dominant.

From the pair homzugous mealy barred x blackpied there is 1 young this round. It looks like a mealy barred again, although the feathers on the wingdeck show some "hammering" as we call this in dutch fancier subject language.

From the creambarred x mealybarred pairing there was nothing in the first roung, the second round shows 2 healthy squabs, but cream barred, although the youngest seems somewhat darker. Both show pale to white beeks and toenails, so everything points to birds carrying recessive gens.

The eggs of the third round are there as well, again 3 pairs with fertile eggs, the fourth were empty. It was the creambarred pairing again, I hope they will produce good eggs in the fourth round, which will be the last for the Hollies. No need to wear them out in a single breeding season.

Until the next!
